Summer home decor

In a normal year, summer is anticipated thanks to a winter of grey clouds and cold temperatures. This year, the pandemic has only served to ratchet up our desire to get outside, soak up some rays, and be social.

Summer is a time for fresh vibes and more energy. It’s a time for new ideas and feeling light and bright and fresh. And it’s the time to let the interior of your home share in the fun.

Jayne Morgan loves summer. As a qualified interior designer and leading home stager in Christchurch, Jayne spends her days furnishing and styling residential homes, honing their indoor/ outdoor flow and preparing them for a potential purchaser to walk in and be instantly smitten.

One of the ways she does that is by bringing the outside inside. “Think of the colours of nature,” says Jayne.

“Greens and blues and wood tones all treat our eyes to the shades of cultivation and regeneration. A little highlight of colour can update a room in an instant.” Shapes can also hint at a natural setting within your walls. Botanical prints – leaves, trees, vines, flowers – can be included on curtains, cushions, throws, or artwork.

Of course, adding plants is yet another way to bring nature indoors. “We love including plants in a home, and plenty of them if the space allows. And for homeowners without the time to water live plants, our quality artificial plants are hard to tell from the real thing, yet they still bring that fresh, alive feeling. Just perfect for an enjoyable, healthy summer.”
