Spring in your Step: Get the Street Appeal Right

When it comes to selling your home, beautifying the exterior is just as important as showcasing the interior.

With springtime upon us, it’s the perfect time to make your home as inviting as possible. Jayne Morgan from The Finishing Touches offers her top tips to maximise your home’s appeal. When you’re selling your home, the goal for most vendors is to get a good price with minimal hassle. And when potential buyers come to your home, you want them to see an attractive property they can immediately fall in love with. And that all starts the moment they set eyes on your abode.

Impress Viewers with Street Appeal

Let’s consider some basic ways to elevate your home from standard to superior.

Number one: clean the windows – it’s incredible how much more your home will sparkle if the windows are shining! Secondly, wash the walls and pressure wash the driveway. You’ll be surprised how much these three things will immediately lighten your home.
And with winter behind us, it’s warm enough to get out in the garden and tackle those jobs that make your home spick and span again. Raking up leaves, pruning the trees, mowing the lawn, and storing away any outdoor toys and hoses will make a big difference.

Make an Entrance

Remember, the goal is to help potential buyers see themselves in the space, so you’ve got to get rid of the clutter and offer a fresh, spacious entranceway. “Even adding a welcome mat that is clean and new will add a warmth to your entrance,” says Jayne. “It’s a bit like the coffee and bread effect – but on the outside!”

Placing accent plants by the front door is also a great way to increase the street appeal of a home. Yellow flowers in pots are a great option, as they are fresh and add that pop of colour.

Outdoor Seating

Spring is also a great time to overhaul the outdoor furniture and wipe down the patio chairs and table. The idea is to create a cosy look that invites prospective buyers to sit down and enjoy their surroundings.

“We often recommend vendors spend a bit of time and money getting the outdoor seating area looking really appealing,” says Jayne. “That could mean painting the deck or fixing up the fencing. Any shrubs, flower beds and tree saplings are great additions showing potential buyers that you care for and maintain your home.”

Indoor Outdoor Flow

Jayne knows a thing or two about creating interiors and exteriors that feel welcoming, fresh and spacious. “Just as we furnish, style and accessorise the interior of your home, we can also add flair to your outdoor seating areas by selecting cushions, throws and rugs that will instantly enhance the look of your home,” says Jayne. “Getting this right is crucial to making your property look beautiful in print, online and in person.”

So, take a deep breath and enjoy the freshness of spring. Jayne is skilled at providing you with a fresh pair of eyes to see what prospective buyers might see from the street and inside the home. First impressions count, so make sure your home looks fantastic – inside and out.
