Finishing the Year in Festive Style

We happily admit to a soft spot for Christmas trees, and as much as we admire a magazine-worthy tree themed and styled to perfection, the reality is often so very different. So, the next time the cat climbs your tree, or the pre-schooler insists on hanging their glitter-dipped homemade creations, just remember it’s the perfect time to celebrate and reflect on the year that has been – less about the look and more about the feels!

However, regardless of the wildlife and the wild things that might inhabit your home, here are a few tips for a curated Christmas that’ll look beautiful and make your heart sing:

Limited colour palette – a personal favourite is burnished gold paired with…anything! Gold and navy, or gold and burgundy, maybe gold and cream. The trick is to choose a colourway and stick with it.

Velvet ribbons – does anything say luxury quite like velvet? With their lustrous sheen, hand-tied velvet bows will elevate your Christmas glamour.

Invest in a quality tree, artificial or real. Fluff the tree and shape the branches. Time spent in the preparation will pay dividends when decorating.

Difficult to add after you’ve already hung the baubles and garlands, start with the lights. We love premium quality seed lights. Even better, try and source lights on a green wire that will disappear into the tree.

Cluster your baubles. Apply the ‘rule of thirds’ and simplify the styling process by hanging different sizes of baubles in groupings of three for maximum visual appeal.

Use a statement tree topper. A stunning way to complete the look, choose one that fits the theme and proportions of your tree for an Insta-worthy effect.

And, finally, the finishing touch is the skirt. Often overlooked, a Christmas tree skirt will hide unsightly ‘legs’ while adding balance to the tree.

Keeping Christmas Real

Regardless of what it looks like, the ‘perfect’ Christmas tree is the one that brings you joy as family and friends come together. Whether it’s styled traditionally, or you introduce the latest trends of ‘Anti-Christmas Décor’, ‘Retro Disco’ or ‘Folky Felt’, let’s raise a glass to a magical day and good times with the people we love most.
